Dons' musings about O Fallon Mo : I just love this profession

I just love this profession

I just love this profession.............................................

You go to bed at night and get a GREAT nights rest.  All is well in the real estate world, life is good, better and the absolute best.  You wake up in the morning feeling on top of the world.  You take a casual walk around the neighborhood with your dog and then you head off to the office to start your day.  You even have time to take a different route to the office just to see what has changed in your area of the world.  You notice that there is a new Walgreens going up just a couple of blocks from your home, a new restaurant that wasn't there last month (or at least you didn't notice it when you were by it last week).  Ahh life's good, nothing could be better the sun is out and not a cloud in the sky.  You walk into the office all smiles with good mornings to everyone in the office.  You get a cup of coffee and sit down at your desk.  Oh did I mention you even kissed your spouse good-by before you left the house?

You come home 8, 10 or even 12 hours later.  Walk in slam the door, kick the dog and snarl at the spouse.  Somewhere between the time you left home with a smile on your face and when you get back home the world has changed.  The last thing you can remember is the phone rang!!  Now you become a fireman or a psychologist or a (?).  The Woolite hits the fan and your world all of a sudden doesn't look like it did just 10 minutes ago.

I still believe that this is an awesome profession even with its ups and downs.  I have the opportunity everyday to work with some of the best people in the world, REALTORS®.  We do so much on a day to day basis that helps make a difference in peoples' lives.  We have donated not only our dollars to rebuild the Gulf Coast after Katrina we have donated our time and energy too.  What about all of the other charities that we work with day in and day out.  We need to be proud of what we do in our local communities to help our neighbors.  We do far more than just sell houses, we make a difference in our communities.  There are so many REALTORS® that give back on a daily basis and do it without drawing attention to themselves.  They do it because they believe it is the right thing to do and do it with a smile.  To you that do this I say thank you and send out to you a STANDING OVATION.  You deserve far more than this.  Let me assure you that what you are doing is not going unnoticed keep up the good work.

Even though this may be your typical day, I promise, I did not follow you around to get the details for this posting.

By the way, did I mention that the price of gas went up and there was a change to the contract while you were reading this?

Don,

We are in a great profession; it's like a roller coaster, and sometimes we have our arms up going down hill!

Thank you Jeff for the response.  I am thinking that you like roller coasters.  They are more fun to ride with your hands up, more excitement!  Just like real estate, keep your hands up and enjoy the ride.

Real estate truly is a great profession.  Never a day goes by when things change, nothing is ever the same and if you love variety then this is definitely the profession for you.  We wear so many hats - firefighter, policeman/woman, tour guide, social worker, psychologist and the list goes on.  I love my job!! I love my career, I love my profession and I am surrounded by some lovely people called realtors!!

I am not a fan of rollercoasters.  But for some reason I love real estate.  Maybe because it my life would seem boring.  Just a thrill seeker here.

Great post! It's the challenge that we all love and the diversity!  We never know what that next phone call will bring.  Now Don admit it...... not every day is like that.  Some days buyers even sign contracts and sellers even get to close on their propeties.  Some days you even get a check for your hard work and efforts!  Some days you get to go home early and spend time with your family.  Some days qualified buyers show up at your Open House!  It's a wonderful business and a great way to make a living if you enjoy PEOPLE and CHALLENGES!

Thank you June and Nannette for your responses.  There are a lot of thrills and a lot of hats in this profession.  And we have a lot of things to be proud of.  Have a GREAT day.

I too love this profession - due to the fact that everyday is different - I love the constant change that is always going around.

Ok, I admit it........There are days that buyers sign contracts and sellers even get to the closing table.  And somedays I even get a CHECK.  And some days I even get to go home early and the wife is asking "What are you doing home so early", "Did you get fired"?  Yes I do get to spend time with my family and the dog does not get kicked and all is well in WHOVILLE.  Thank you Diane for calling me to task on the post.

The profession may have it's ups and downs but all in all I love it and can't picture myself doing anything else.

What about the home inspection that killed the deal and we have to go back to showing houses.  It was good that the clients were protected at least.

Ginny and Vincent, It is a great profession and one that change is an everyday thing.  That is what makes it so much fun.

Gary and Russ, There are a lot of ups and downs in this profession and I think that there are more UPS than DOWNS.  And for that we have a lot to be thankful for.

The life of a real estate agent...wow! I thought you were me for a second and then I thought...who would want to be a real estate agent at this time? Fortunately, a few of us!

It took me over 20 years to keep a steady hand on the wheel, to not get rattled. I love what I do,  even though there is not always alot of control. We just need to know how to navigate different waters.

Gary and Mike, Just think of all of the fun that we would be missing in another profession!  Learning how to navigate "different waters" is always a fun time isn't it?  I thank you for your comments.

Don- Isn't it nice to, each and everyday, go to the office feeling on top of the world even after a day that may have had some challenges? yep, life is good, better, the absolute best!
