Today March 4th is “Hug a GI Day”…….Today, and every March 4th, is a day that we all can get close and hug. It's "Hug a GI Day". Give a great big hug to any and all GIs you see today. The men and women in our armed forces deserve our thanks and appreciation.
Our military men and women (GI's) perform an invaluable service to our country. They risk their lives for our freedom, and to keep us safe. A simple hug is a small thank you for this vital service to our country.
Have you ever wondered what GI stands for? The answer is: Government Issue. If it was General Infantry, then artillerymen, airmen, clerks and cooks wouldn't be GIs. When you go to boot camp, all your personal items are taken away and everything you have is Government Issue.

Oh Yeah!!! Been there - and did that bit. I think that everyone should do a stint in the service. Talk about changing your mindset...
Mike,
I have been saying that for many years. Thanks for stopping in this morning.
Hi Don - I think "Hug a GI" should be year round not one day.
Don,
Ok, but if this gets awkward, I'm sending them to your post. Great reminder Don...thanks! I'm with Mike on this, been there, done that, never got a hug.
Rich
A great reminder to recognoze all of those that are currently serving or have served in the past!

Don, our GI's deserve a hug and a lot more from us. To bad so many people think they do a dis- service
Conrad,
You my friend are so right it should be a daily thing in my opinion.
Richard I.,
I know what you are saying there are a lot of us that have been and still are in that boat.
Richard W.,
I was surprised when I saw this. I would have thought that we shouldn't need a reminder day it should be automatic.
Thank you sir for the feature in Whacked.
William,
Those that think that serving in the military is a dis-service to our country ought to do it for a couple of years.
It's great we have another day to honor those serving Don. Thanks for letting us know about this March 4th one.
